His only hope to escape from this kind of life is to pass the football tryouts at his high school and be awarded the fifty grand scholarship. However, on the day of the tryouts, he gets in a fight with Pierce Bradshaw.

Pierce is the foster son of Trent Bradshaw, a former NHL quarterback and the coach for the team Asher’s trying for. Trent witnessed the scuffle between them. Pierce plays the victim. Asher tries to explain, but Trent shuts him down.

Trent’s dislike toward him is clear—or he’s just being biased with his foster son. During the tryouts, Asher clearly performed better, but it was Pierce who got the starting position instead of him.
