Until she became a young lady working as a shoe shiner in the plaza. It was her bread and butter, even though she only made a very small amount of money.

With her was Clarissa, her only friend and companion. But when the hideous loan shark Nino forced her to pay, she had to find another way to earn. If she was not able to repay him on time, he would kill her and Clarissa, who happened to be suffering from a serious illness. Hopeless and problematic, she had to find a way to save themselves from death.

One day, while she was shoe shining, she saw a photo of Duke Cesare Buonaparte. He was a feared nobleman, known for his staggering wealth. She could not help but wish to meet her and ask for his help. In the next second, the face of her customer revealed, and it was Cesare. While listening to their conversation, she had to do something to impress him.

It turned out that Cesare was looking for a young lady to pretend to be his long-lost sister. He had to avoid marrying Lucrezia Della Valle. Without thinking twice, Adele volunteered herself. But looking at her shabby appearance, Cesare refused to get her. Due to her desperation, she poured a bucket of water on her body and removed her hat.
