Since Honey Cut is the second installment of a trilogy, let’s have a quick summary of what happened before the second timeline begins before we proceed with the main event.

Previously in Salt Kiss, retired soldier Tristan Thomas becomes Mark Trevena’s bodyguard, the owner of Lyoness BDSM Club. He was supposed to protect Mark from his enemies, and he did a good job. Except, he’s unable to protect his heart from falling for the sadistic dom.

The two ended up on each other’s bed, sharing pleasure and pain and adhering to one rule: never fall in love. The emotionally broken Tristan, of course, failed. Their dom-and-sub relationship ended before Tristan could find an excuse. Still, Mark lets him stay as his bodyguard.

However, one failed attack gave a faction of the Catholic Church a chance to arrange a marriage between Mark and their daughter Isolde Laurence.

Mark arranges for Tristan to escort his fiancée to his territory. Even though Tristan is fuming with jealousy, he still has to obey his master’s orders, unaware that what’s waiting for him on that yacht is someone who would breach his walls more than Mark did.

Part 2: Honey Cut Book Summary

Isolde Laurence’s Past

Honey Cut movie

Born and raised in a religious family, Isolde Laurence had always been the good girl her parents are proud of. Her life revolves around studies and the Catholic Church—until her father declared she was to marry DC’s dangerous and sadistic dom Mark Trevena.

With rumors going around, which are not exactly good, Isolde refuses at first. But when Father Mortimer threatened her with her life, she had no other option but to follow despite her unwillingness. Well, at least Isolde escaped being the retirement plan; she just became the scapegoat.

Mark Trevena’s men drag her into his yacht to bring her back to him. To avoid any unnecessary trouble, they have to drug her to sleep. Stubborn as she is, Isolde finds a way to untie herself. But because of the drug, she struggles to even walk, ultimately leading to her falling into the pool.

Tristan and Isolde’s First Meeting

Fortunately, Tristan was on patrol. He arrives in time to save the unconscious fiancée of his boss. But Isolde mistakes him for Mark, and kisses him to let his guard down.

Tristan should be furious and jealous (he was even before he boarded the yacht), but when his lips met Isolde’s, an indescribable sensation filled his senses. He had felt it once before, and it was for the man he was obsessed with. To whom he’s jealous of now? Definitely not of Isolde.

But Isolde’s move was just to distract him. She snatches Tristan’s knife and threatens him. However, as a girl raised far away from violence, Isolde had never had the guts and strength to pull this stunt. Tristan easily takes back the knife and introduces himself as Mark’s bodyguard tasked with escorting Isolde.

Isolde doesn’t have time to argue when the drugs kick in. She passes out, and Tristan carries her back to her room. Once she wakes up, Isolde discovers that Tristan has been caring for her.

Their first meeting and first kiss in the Honey Cut book signal the start of a forbidden affair that could either destroy or give them hope. With Mark Trevena on the way, it’s an automatic death sentence.

But for the two who were forced into something they never wanted, they have become a comforting presence for each other. And comfort is often mistaken for love, and in a moment of carelessness, Isolde and Tristan crossed something they should never have.

Meeting Mark Trevena

Isolde and Tristan decided to forget that night that had never happened. Isolde promised to only ever love Tristan, the first person who made her feel safe. Mark is nothing like Tristan. He’s ruthless, sadistic, and the more Mark drowns her in pleasure, the more she struggles to come to a decision.

She couldn’t deny the growing attraction she’s feeling. She also can’t let go of her feelings for Tristan.

Mark can burn the world for her, but Tristan is willing to be burned with her. With such devotion, forget choosing, even the audience would agree that she should just take both.

However, can Isolde have the best of both worlds?

Part 3: Why Is Honey Cut Book the Most Controversial Adaptation of ReelShort?

Honey Cut book

Honey Cut book takes the complicated relationship dynamics established in Salt Kiss makes them even messier by introducing Isolde Laurence into the equation. Instead of continuing with a straightforward romance between Tristan and Mark, the story places Tristan in the position of escorting his employer’s future wife—and naturally, things immediately become complicated.

ReelShort never shied away from producing taboo and erotic dramas, but this drama adaptation pushes the boundaries of what most audiences can tolerate.

The story isn’t interested in giving Isolde an easy choice between a good man and a bad man. Instead, both Tristan and Mark appeal to completely different sides of her. And if that wasn’t enough, Mark and Tristan also have a thing for each other.

Throuple relationships are already frowned upon, but the drama ravely embraces the taboo.

And perhaps that’s exactly what makes Honey Cut interesting as a ReelShort adaptation. It doesn’t give viewers a clean romantic choice. Instead, it asks what happens when three people want different things from the same relationship—and when choosing one person inevitably hurts another.

For viewers who enjoy dark LGBTQ romance, forbidden affairs, complicated relationships, and morally messy characters, Honey Cut full episodes offer plenty to discuss.
